Hello! I'm Darshna, the founder of MokshYoga. For me, yoga is life. Both energising and deeply restorative, my classes combine a range of asana (postures) with different pranayama (breath) techniques to create space in the body, let go of tension, massage the internal organs and relax the mind.
My unique teaching style is influenced by the depth of understanding of anatomy and physiology in Iyengar Yoga and Yoga Sport Science. The spirituality, philosophy and subtle aspects of yoga such as chakra (energy centres in the body), bandha (body locks) and mudra (hand, eye and body gestures) are found in Satyananda Yoga, a key practice with influences my teaching greatly.
With over 2 decades in coaching, my experiences have shown me not only the traditional importance yoga plays in recovery, flexibility and well-being of the body, but also of its vital importance in improving the mental well-being of an athlete. Through interventions, we can see strong correlations with improved decision making under pressure, and a feeling of calmness when performing which gives athletes a mental edge by being able to control and coordinate brain and body.
I am a qualified Yoga Sports Coach™, and through a tailored sport-specific coaching program we can work through a number of components, including:
- Breathing
- Proprioceptive Awareness
- Injury Prevention & Management
- The Nature of the Mind
- Application of Functional Yoga
If you'd like to know more about how Yoga Sports Science (YSS) might help you, please get in touch! For sessions with individual athletes and clubs, I'd be happy to consider travelling to you on the basis of a mutual understanding, so please contact me for more information.
I'm Darshna Parmar, and I have been practicing and studying yoga since 1999, and teaching since 2007. I trained at the British Wheel of Yoga and the Institute of Yoga Sports Science, earning me diplomas in the field. In 2020, I registered with Yoga Alliance Professional as a Senior Yoga Teacher, confirming that I have completed over 10,000 hours of teaching.
I started my personal journey 1999 after attending a yoga class at a local church: it was much needed sanctuary during challenging times. Once qualified with a diploma, I joined a yoga class run by Jivanmukta (Barbara Joseph) where the deeper aspects of Pranayama, Philosophy and Yoga Nidra changed my life and became the passion that it is today.
My teaching style emphasises the breath, healthy alignment and mindful asana put together for building strength & flexibility. Relaxation and Philosophy is woven through every session. My aim is to provide a safe confidential setting where students can be themselves. I take great joy in sharing my knowledge and experience with my students and I am extremely grateful to those who have shared theirs with me, Monica Burton, Late Patricia Scammell, Barbara Joseph, Paul Fox, Uma Dinsmore Tuli and Swami Pragyamurti of Satyananda Yoga.
I now run individual coaching sessions and group classes several times per week, and I also am the yoga lead at a number of NHS hospitals in the northwest London area.
My students are carefully guided and supported to work at their own level, and are encouraged not to give rise to ego but instead to internal strength and acceptance.
